what is this hose. 2001

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

what is this hose. 2001

Post by sunsheyen »

Hello, thanks for reading and any help.

I was driving, car shuddered intermittently (no problem with ignition), eventually all notification lights came on (no info in message window) and steering got very tight, had to coast to a stop. Opened the hood and the only problem I can see is a hose that looks like it used to be connected. it is near the front of the engine block, just in line with the oil cap. It is about 1 inch in diameter and has a metal clamp around the top. It looks like it should connect with a small downward facing protruding piece. (i am so not savvy, please forgive my ignorance). I am able to slide it back up, but it doesnt seem very steady. When i started the engine again, it was shaking violently and making stuttering noises.

Any idea what this part is and what can be done to fix it (so i dont go in and get shafted for repairs)?

That hose is connected to the purge valve, it does attach to the bottom of the intake where you were attaching it. tighten the clamp and check the air intake lines, from the air box to turbos, turbos to inter cooler, and from inter cooler to the throttle unit on the bottom of the intake manifold. You rough running condition is most likely from unmetered air getting into the system. this would most likely be after the turbos. The pressure blew off a hose, had this problem myself. just check the lines and ensure the clamps are snug.

Good luck

Yep thats your compressor bypass valve CBV. It relieves excess manifold pressure generated when you back off the gas to prevent damage to the turbo (compressor stall) and other components.

I also see the smaller pipe to the left of that one is disconnected. You will need this, it is used by the TCV (turbo control valve) to regulate the boost pressure by controlling the wastegates. With this missing you may reach an overboost condition. Not good for turbos or motor.

on second thought, depending on how your car is plumbed the small pipe thats missing may also be an evap pipe, so not quite as critical, but as mentioned before it will cause an air leak and erratic running.

Over boost would explain why all the hoses are disconnected, pressure blew some of the hoses off several time from the first post. Make sure to check all the hoses to ensure they are fully seated or you may miss a possible leak. Just a thought.
