Passenger side fan blowing HEAT when set to COOL. Lil' help?

Post by grndslm »

Soo... yesterday, my buddy and I go for a job interview. When we left, it was cold.... so I moved both temperature controls to HEAT. On the way back home, it was hot.... so I moved my temp control to COOL. I presume that my buddy moved his temp control to COOl, as well... because eventually I started feeling a bit of heat.

Soo... I decided to pop the passenger side temp control knob off and a little metal piece came out, which I don't understand how it actually fits anywhere between the knob & the switch.

The A/C is blowing fine on the driver side, but when I put the knob back on the passenger side (*without* the metal doo-hickey)... it makes no adjustments to the heat. The left-most vent is ALL cool, the center-left vent is mostly cool but I can tell a bit of heat is making its way in there. The center-right vent is pretty much all heat. And I'm sure the right-most vent is ALL heat.

I can shut those two right vents off, but I'm hoping this is a simple fix. Any takers?

Take that knob off and post us a picture. I'm guessing you need to snag a knob out of the boneyard.

The D shaped metal collar is designed to keep the knob on the shaft and it should slide into the back on the knob before it is pressed onto the shaft on the controller. Do you have the electronic climate unit (ECC) or the manual version (MCC)? The electronic version has AUT settings and the temperature is graduated in degrees. The MCC has graduated width red bars for the temp settings and fan settings from 0 to 4.

I have had two problems with the MCC not properly providing heat or cold. In one case the temperature damper door was stuck and in the other case the anchor clip that holds the outer sheath on the cable in place had popped off.

I would have agreed with you....

But now the drivers side A/C is not working either, anymore!!!

I don't understand how the A/C could work enough to blow super cold out of 1-2 vents, but not all 4.

I turned all the vents off, excluding the left-most vent on drivers side. That worked for a day or two.... now I'm getting no A/C at all.

Perhaps I just need a recharge??

I just replaced the heater core, and the carpet is still out. So I should be able to take a look at the cables in the daylight tomorrow.... but I'm starting to think that this is not the issue.

Recharge? Compressor? Fuse?? EVAPORATOR??

I saw another thread about a corroded evaporator causing the a/c to blow heat.... and since my heater core leaked all over my carpet, perhaps this is the problem?? As far as I know, the evaporator is the black hose that's connected to the hump in the floorboard, directly below the heater core... but this is probly not the whole equation.

What's the best way to go about troubleshooting this now??
