Great job on the blog. I ran across your page while I was hunting for my car, and it gave me lots of info and has since been bookmarked.
Thanks for your effort. Do the kids like their car?

You can find a link to sign up for email updates at the blog main page, on the right column below the topic index. At the very bottom of that column is a field to enter your email address to follow the blog via email.
My college girls like the car well enough because it's safe and reliable and comfortable. Not sporty or peppy, but functional. I would like them to have a nicer/newer Volvo wagon but it's costing me a fortune to put three kids through college and that money tree I planted in the back yard hasn't produced fruit yet.

Actually the money tree is in the mechanical work you did yourself LOL.
Job well-done.
Many people don't realize but 850/S/V70 are very good cars for college kids because:
- If people like yourself bought a car with 100K for cheap, then...
- Spend time/money/effort to beef it up to speed, it will easily last another 100K.
- Comfortable to drive.
- It is safe in case of crash.
So 850/S/V70, if well-maintained, is the best bang for the buck.

I believe Volvos are like wine, the older the better. 855 is a fantastic car, but you need to know how to fix them. If you are a poor student without mechanical skills, the 245 wagon is a beautiful piece of honest engineering.

Absolutely. I just now put it on Links to MAJOR Repairs page.xHeart wrote:Matt, it is an awesome material. Would you consider it listed under Links to MAJOR Repairs, in 850 section of Volvo Forums?matthew1 wrote:Jim, great job. That is a serious source of P80 information!
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Even Volvo used to boast of these things...volvobaggen wrote:I believe Volvos are like wine, the older the better. 855 is a fantastic car, but you need to know how to fix them. If you are a poor student without mechanical skills, the 245 wagon is a beautiful piece of honest engineering.

Unfortunately, the gusto in their advertising (much like the passion they used to put into their cars) is long gone I'm afraid.

I'm sharing this w/my 18 yo son in the hopes he'll let me pick out a good 850/s/v/70 as a replacement for his really troublesome Subaru that I will no longer fix for him. He's not very car freakish but seriously needs to learn how to care for a vehicle. I started when I was 15 when my old dad gave me a 59 Peugeot 403 as my first car along with a tool box full of metrics. Been driving and fixing old beasts ever since, 40 + years
Superb job on the blog, spent all morning going through it. Nice work.

Very informative and well stated. Good for the early V70 crowd too. Thanks.
