coolant leak near water pump 1998 xc70

Post by Poolio65 »

I have recently endevored to change the head gasket on my 1998 xc70. with no garage and a busy schedule it has happened over the course of two months. I have gotten it back together, even got the timing right. upon filling the beast with coolant, I discovered a very bad leak. appeared to be coming from the water pump so I pulled the pump assuming there was a bad seal in the gasket. I reinstalled with new gasket and gasket sealer, only to have the same leak. it is actually a small flow of coolant. I am certian I tourqued the head correctly, this is almost like there is a hose off or a bolt missing from somewhere. Any suggestions would be helpful. I am without a can until I get this fixed.
Thanks

The likely scenario is probably a failing water pump, even more likely if the water pump is original.

water pump is new also. had an epiphany Sunday night. went to local hardware store Monday and bought an inspection mirror. quickly foung the missing bolt that holds the coolant pipe to back of head. Feel foolish for not checking sooner but leak is fixed
