S90 Died

Hi there.

My girlfriend's 1998 Volvo 90 began smoking and not powering when she was exiting a freeway.
We opened the hood and found that this tube was destroyed. I am not sure what this is.

We are taking it to my volvo guy friday but I was just curious if anyone knows what that tube does.

Also, all of the coolant is gone.

I had just added coolant the other day..

Intake air tube to air injection pump. ( for cleaner emissions)

Coolant missing is the issue related to engine problem. Unfortunately, a lack of coolant is something Volvo engines do not respond well to. Hopefully you are not driving the car until the coolant issue is resolved.

Okay. So the coolant not being there would cause the car not to accelerate? I hope its not the head gasket. D: I may have added too much water to coolant when i added coolant.

If the engine didn't overheat you should be fine and it MAY be a leak from a loose clamp etc. Refill with coolant and replace that broken hose.

If you find the source of the leak (and this should be a priority) you should look into why the coolant level sensor didn't alert you; it may require replacement.

I wouldn't worry about the coolant mix as much as the leak.
Let us know where it was leaking from.

When you say "All the coolant is gone" do you mean that the recovery bottle is empty or you took off the lower rad hose and nothing came out?
