2001 VOLVO S80 TIMING BELT CHANGE

Post by dbfelsheep »

I was finally able to get my 2.9l s80 started after timing belt change.
1. Turned engine cw to timing marks on cams and crankshaft. Went 90 degrees on cams cw and back ccw till timing marks match to reset the intake VVT unit.
2. Removed crankshaft dampner to facilitate removing drive belt. Removed drive belt.
3. Removed starter and plug out of case.
4. Removed intake camshaft position indicator and plastic plug out of exhaust camshaft on left side of the engine.
5. Released tension on timing belt and removed timing belt from intake and exhaust sprockets.
6. Here I needed to turn the intake camshaft to line the the cam so it was parallel to the split in the case. The exhaust cam was already lined up with the split. Installed home made cam locks to keep the cams from moving.
7. Next, turned crankshaft cw slowly 2 degrees. Inserted 8 inch 3/8 inch extension into plug hole on case and turned crankshaft ccw till it hit slowly.
8. Since I did not remove my intake VVT from my camshaft, I justed turned VVT unit cw till it stopped. It lined up with the timing mark.
9. Installed timing belt and tensioned timing belt. Removed locks on camshaft and crankshaft and turned crankshaft 2 full turns cw and made sure timing marks lined up and made sure exhaust and camshaft lined up on case spilt on left side of engine. Turned crankshaft cw so cams turned 90 degrees and back 90 degrees ccw.
