so I VOM checked the ECT it was 4800 ohms, so out of spec I guess?

So then I just un-pluged it, and the car started right up, but of coarse then I got PO117, and fan running after shut down.

So what do y'all think?

Any links for the swf ECT?

So I seem to be better at working on cars, than navigating around on computers.

I can't find where to buy the correct SWI ECT

If someone could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

Double check you car model. I don't think there were V70's in the us in 1997, 98 started V70, others were 850 unless your V70 came from outside the us.
Get the VIN and call one of the sponsors at the top of the screen and they'll get your the right part.

Ok so heres the update The car is a 98-not a 97, not really sure why I was thinking 97....

So I bought a new ECT from volvo, And right out of the package it ohms 2100 OHMs, I will install it and check it again to see if this changes.

Going out to install it now...

the ohms went to 2700 after install cold, not sure why? and that is still along way from 5000-7000 ohms that a previous poster said it should be.

I wont know in till it sits all night, to see if that fixed the problem.

I'm having my doubts that this was the fix.

well as I suspected, the ect was not the fix, It was 50* out and it still did the start then die, then try a few more times then it will stay running.

Anyone have any more thoughts on this? it still seems like a fuel issue, I have not been able to check fuel pressure after it shuts off yet

I'm new to volvos and so far my experience has not been a positive one...

Thanks. T.

Did you try the Fuel System Trouble-Shooting Guide I mentioned above?
When you have hard starting, jump a wire between 15 and 87, if the problem goes away, then your fuel pump is bad.
If not, then suspect fuel relay.

Ok so I did the jumper wire, the car started and did not die, so your saying if it runs the fuel pump is bad?, It was not very cold today so were not totally tested yet.

I'm not disputing what you are telling me, I'm just trying to wrap my head around this problem, I build and drive drag cars so I'm very familiar with electric pumps. most times they either work or they don't, the volvo runs fine other than the cold start issue, full throttle and hills are not a problem, and one would think this would be an issue with a weak pump.

I work nights, so I won't get back to this in till tomorrow morning.

Thanks' T.
