Ticking Noise '93 850 GLT

Post by Ride »

Just wondering anyone has any experience with this. My '93 850 makes a loud ticking noise (like lifter noise) when its cold. Upon inspection, it seems to be coming from the fuel rail. I can really feel the ticking if I put my hand on the fuel rail (just above the injectors), but after about 5 mins is seems to quiet down (although not completely, but at least to reasonable levels). Anyway, any help would be apprreciated..
Thanks

I've seen this discussed quite a bit, and the answer is...

fuel injectors.

Mine does it too. I can't explain why it gets less noisy with temperature tho.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Could be lifters, but don't forget the obvious - is your oil level correct?

My 94 850 makes the same noise. I believe it is the fuel injectors. I have unpluged the injectors one at a time and it does seem to effect it, however, the noise is not always consistent. I bought the car with 50k miles and now it has 175k. The noise has been about the same the whole time.

an easy way to check if its the injectors you are hearing is to do the self test, put the jumper lead in to pin A2 turn the ignition on and press the button 3 times it will cycle through all the engne functions, it starts off with the fan, slow speed first then full speed, then goes to the injectors by pulsing them youll here it start at cylinder 1 and go all the way through to cylinder 5, then it will continue though other items e.g IAC valve. to stop at anytime just turn the ignition off. if this is the sound your hearing then problem fixed. Give it a shot.
