V40 vibration from engine area

Post by BernardNitram1995 »

I have V40 2002 1.9TD. When driving there is a buzzing sound that comes and goes. It kicks in when the revs go above a certain level (or around 55 mph in 5th gear). It sounds as though it is something vibrating against a piece of the body or something like that near or in the engine compartment of the car - the sound certainly originates from the front of the car. Does anyone have any ideas?

Does it feel like the wheels are shaking? I am having the same problem in my s40. at about 55-60 it vibrates bad and you can almost feel it in the wheels but the steering wheel doesn't shake so I know it's not that. Just jacked up the front of the car and ran it up to 40 in the air. the engine vibrated real bad and shut off at a certain point past that. Could that be the motor mounts? or one of them?

Good luck! I've had the problem too. At 2500 RPM I get the same metallic noise. No clue from where it's coming. The best I could narrow it was under the dashboard. I'll look forward to what you learn.

ok, figured out the reason the engine was vibrating so badly was because the DSA was on. Jacked up the car, turned it on and spun it up to 50-60 mph. Engine didn't shake. Could still feel the vibration, not sure if it's the CV axle or what. Doesn't look like the wheels hop when in the air, could it be the joint on the transmission side of the axle?
