Brake Lights - Rear stopped working

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Brake Lights - Rear stopped working

Post by Lance L »

Light in center light works, rears do not. I have checked front and back fuses. Swapped and replaced relay with new on REM. Swapped the shunts. Bulbs are new.
Relay seems to click on braking. What am I missing. Brake light failure light always lights when brake engaged - sensor?

Thanks Lance

Since you have done so many things I would do a battery reset (pull off ground cable and touch to the pos cable/post for 10 seconds then put it back on). After that lock and unlock with remote.
You may have fixed it but the REM may not have reset.

Looking online for the ground. Would this be in by the rear battery?, or in hood by the jumper post?
And as you instructed, this ground wire is contacted to the positive post for 10 seconds?

thanks for your reply,

Lance

Same year, same model, same problem. Local shop quoted $900 to code and replace the REM. I'm thinking it's got to be repairable, right?
