Parts failure poll: P2 Volvos: V70/S60/XC70 from 2001-2007

Post by matthew1 »

What has failed on your P2 Volvo: V70/S60/XC70 from 2001-2007?

S80 and XC90 not included. I will have an S80 poll in the S80 forum, and an XC90 poll in the XC90 forum soon.

You can come back to add parts as the years and months go by. You can vote not for one or two of these choices, but for every one of them, if you're that unlucky.

Both front Abs rings snapped with rust. Replaced rings on old driveshafts.
Both abs sensors - damaged by abs ring.
Both rear calipers seized. Replaced and also replaced disks and brakes pads/shoes.
Both track rod ends replaced
Off side bottom end balljoint replaced, nearside due.
Drop links on both sides.

I have all of the above on my MOT failure sheet.

Car off the road since Oct 2011 as a result of unresolved ETM issues.

Decided now to give her the restoration she thoroughly deserves. Stuartgray, would be interested to hear of your experiences with abs issues to see if they match mine.

If there is every another round to this poll, could add "hood/bonnet cable". Had that snap on me a while back... there is a few photos in a PDF (search for hood/bonnet cable on this site) about making a backup if anyone else gets worried!

But the best improvement came from changing the transmission fluid!

Our '04 V70 (2.5T) has been virtually flawless...of course the upper engine mount is going to wear out- I hate that they put the square design in that has a cover- much harder to tell when it's gone. I also had the fuel door hinge go and besides that, the sway bar end links which I upgraded to IPD's when I changed all the sway bars out to theirs. I'm thinking the rear ones are going now too- they really didn't have beefy upgrades for those at the time I changed the rear bar- but should check into it.
I have changed brake pads but with close to 120K miles on the car, I am changing the front rotors this weekend for the first time!! Wow, talk about longevity!

Over the 8 years that I have had my V70-T5 I have had to replace:-

Throttle-body ( Magnetti-Marrelli .. of-course )
Front brake-discs twice
Rear brake-discs once
Heater-radiator soon after I got it ( at 110,000 miles )
Numerous front anti-rollbar drop-links.... Thought that they were a yearly requirement ! Near-side mainly.

However, the car has never had any faults cause it to fail it's MOT.

Ian.
