Temp gauge activates in cold weather, '94 850
Hello everyone I am new to the site. I have a 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo. I have had it for about two months now. Since the weather is getting colder I have noticed that when I start driving the car (without a warm up) that a light in the dashboard will come on and the screen will switch from mpg (where I usually have it) to the temperature gauge. I have looked all over the website to see if anyone has previously posted this but I cannot find any threads. Does anyone know what this is?

Anytime it is 36 degrees or colder your display will automatically switch to the temp and light up the red light to alert you. You can change it back by turning the selector knob.

+1 It is meant alert you of the temperatures at which roads are most likely to become icy.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I am super busy all the time. I think you guys are right, after I read the first response I would check the thermometer on my phone and it was accurate. I was freaking out for nothing. I will check the codes and get the odometer fixed when I have money. First I need to replace the oil lines according to my bf. Thanks for all the help everyone!
Oh I also forgot, about twice now since the weather has gotten colder the car would start slowing down when I am on the accelerator. The second time it happened I pulled over to see if putting it in park then switching back to drive would help and the car actually shut down in drive. Has anyone else had that issue?

You likely have a new issue. You really need to read the codes.

Reading the codes should be free. If you don;t have a code reader, many auto parts stores will read them for free. Call around, tell them you have a "check engine light" and ask if they read codes. Write down all of the codes and then post them up. Even if you don't have $$ for repairs right now, you want to know those codes so you can prioritize.
