Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

s80 electrical failure cem dim dashboard

Post by b4mky »

I have a S80 2005 model year which I recently bought. Initially the n/s dipped beam did not work [ checked all fuses and changed bulb - tested no power ?] , but now after putting a new battery on, ..... There are no instrument lights/gauges in cluster, no power drivers seat, no ac controls - heated seats etc, indicators flash but nothing on cluster ? Engine starts fine and drives faultlessly, interior lights ok, central locking ok etc. I have checked all fuses under bonnet [also 4 main ones underneath fuse board], fuses in boot, and the ones by the steering wheel [ rh side - mine is RHD], all ok, some of the fuse above the brake and accelerator pedal do not all show power? and so I have a s80 with NO speedo/ rev cluster at all, NO ac/ventilation, NO power drivers seat, NO n/s dipped beam otherwise all ok ! Has anybody any Ideas [ I had seen a similar problem on a XC90 v8 2007 - but no replies.] Thank you.

I have not had this issue YET but it seems these cars have the worst electrical gremlins. In that if there is one, it's often impossible to find. Like you suggested, have you checked out continuity at the CEM. There was a pinout diagram somewhere for I don't recall where I found it.

Hope it works out for you. Cheers.

Disconnect the battery with ignition off then press the brake pedal to discharge the electrical system then move the key to pos II then reconnect the battery. Modules require ignition at pos II for reconnection of power.
