New MAF and Boost Sensor - now trouble starting, 2000 S40

Post by toddmardent »

I just replaced many items on my 2000 S40. This included a new MAF and a Boost Sensor (A) - the one under the fuel rail. After doing so the car has trouble starting at all. It ran badly before I did this, but at least it started. I have also replaced spark plugs, ignition coil number 2, thermostat and coolant temp sensor.

The problem with starting came right after i replaced the MAF and Boost sensor. In doing so I pulled out the Fuel Injectors on the rail to get at the booster. I replaced evertyhing back in.

I started the car today and the black tube/pipe in the middle of my picture near the fuel pressure regulator (teh one that looks new) just blew out completely. Any thoughts on why this might be happening? I have noticed that it has been movable lately, just a little up and down so perhaps its just a faulty seal or connection etc.?

Thanks for your quick responses on my other question. I really appreciate it.

That hard black line returns to the brake booster. It locks into place and has a tight seal. I'm surprised it popped out of place. Perhaps the fuel injectors were not reinstalled properly? Did you gap the spark plugs properly? They're supposed to be gapped at .38 if memory serves me. That vacuum hose to the throttle body looks pretty gnarly. I would replace it. You made so many changes, it's hard to say what might cause the problem. I suggest going back over your work and making sure everything was done properly. One theory is that there's too much pressure building up, causing the line to dislodge, but I'm not sure what would cause that. Good luck!

The spark plug gap is supposed to be 0.28. Sorry about the bad memory!
