I had the same problem. I got a flexable extension for my dremel and just kept grinding till the head was gone. I messed up the ABS case a little, but you can still send it to matty moo and have him fix that one and send it back to you. It took about a half an hour, but I had mine up on a lift.

I have found that a 5/32 socket fits the E5 torx bit perfectly! The end of one of mine was messed up from previous owner! I found the 5/32 fit good at the bottom of the bit if you check it you will see I used that to get mine out and put them back in.. Try it you'll see!!

Thank you!
Bringing back an old thread but important discovery on my part.
Exact same issue for me, three (3) out of four (4) E5 bolts came off, but the last bolt, bottom near the firewall was stripped.

I have tried both E5 and 5/32" sockets to no avail.

I was about to give up, or to try dremel tool (a PITA due to awkward angle). Did I mention I almost swear?

Relax, I looked at the bolt head, believe it or not the Torx area is tapered with the outer part of the head being E5 but the inner part near the "washer" portion is E6. Out of desperation, I tried E6 socket and it worked!!!

So guys, use E6 socket as you wish!

FYI,

My local Ace Hardware carries the bolt for 60 cents/each.

Factory is: M4 x 07 x 48mm long, Torx head
Ace Hardware: M4 x 07 x 50mm long, Phillips head, add a lock washer and you are in good shape.

I agree, I also replaced those bolts, but put an end to the hassle and just get the bolts with a hex head. Sockets are much easier to deal with than Phillips.

That works great and I always do it, but the ones that are seizing and stripping are almost always the originals bolts on an original unit.

The bolt bonds to the metal sleeve in the module and the corrosion on the heads doesn't help any. Spraying it with some PB might help, but not always. My last stripped bolt adventure spanned almost two hours, it was memorial day and my grinding bit was worn so I couldn't get another. It's pure frustration when you feel that ratchet slip.

Next time I blow one out I'm going to try the e-6. I've already tried everything else repeatedly.

Resurrecting an old thread to ask: Would an M4 × 07 × 45 mm be long enough?
