850GLT engine temperature gage

Post by Jian Li »

My volvo 850glt (1997) engine temperature goes right to the middle a few minutes after I drive out. No matter of what outside temperature and how fast I drive, it stays there without moving at all. Is is normal?

this is normal operation. Newer cars are enginered to heat up faster so that the amount of damage caused to an engine that is run while cold is minimized. My 850R does the same thing. You should be okay as long the needle doesn't rise to high (into the red zone). Although it's not a bad idea to keep the coolant topped off.
