Do I need to work on the suspension?
Do I need to work on the suspension?
Drove my wife's 2001 S40 today...I was not happy about the drive. Car's suspension felt rough and rigid. Not subtle at all. I remembered it being civilized...not now. No clunking, or noise, just rough. Felt every pebble on the road. Bouncing on the four corners, the shocks felt fine. They have never been replaced...150,000 miles. Was I mis-remembering? Or, should I consider new struts and springs? I know, you haven't driven the car...but...150K...I just want it to absorb the road nicely and not be so harsh.

I don't trust the looks anymore. After taking the Spring off the old strut, my daughter was able to push the shaft all the way down by hand.
You are taking chances with driving on Spring only. Take care of front suspension right away, especially if you are in snow country. ABS/TRACS would not be sufficient.
