Interior lights

Post by matthannan »

It recently struck me that the inside of my S70 should not be as dark as it is.
Thanks to this forum, I now know that this is a common problem, and that I have multiple paths available to me to fix this issue.
What I have not been able to isolate is a list of part numbers so that I can either order the OE bulbs, or step it up with LED equivalents (either bought-ready-to-go or DIY).
In plenty of posts I have seen people just whip out exact part numbers, which is great and all, but in others it seems that folks are guessing ("Looks like a "74" to me.")
First, I am wondering where the parts number providing people are getting them from.
Second, I am wondering if that source is not available, if I give my laundry list of bulbs that need replacing, you might assist with providing me with those numbers. Or maybe this has already been compiled and I just haven't found it yet in the Repair Database?

Thanks,
Matt

Welcome to the forum!

I can't help you with a part number list at this moment, but I still have some spare bulbs at home from when I did the stereo and dash switches on my 850, I might have some dash bulbs as well. I can check tonight if there are numbers on there. If I find numbers, I will post.

But I orderd all the bulbs from IPD, they have all the ones you need. The bulbs for the dash and stereo are fairly cheap, however, the switch bulbs are almost $6 a piece. No idea why, but I would like to find a cheaper source for those myself.
IPD also offers a LED kit, but I can't comment on the price.

Thanks for the replies and offers.

I've started putting a spreadsheet together and saw that I could use the Mouser CNW1-23 for both the dash switches and the radio, so I ordered ten of them at $0.59 each.

I am looking at the MCC bulbs now and am thinking that the famous DIY LED conversion might be possible here, but I am not finding two key pieces of info:
* How many bulbs are in the MCC? What I am finding on IPD is for the ECC and it is calling for 4 bulbs.
* What is the height of the bulb? 17mm?

Am I reading this right?
The ash tray bulb, the gear shift bulb and the glove box bulb are all the same type?

I'm telling you, it is dark in this car at night! Pretty much just the console is lit.
I am trying to get everything lit up again as my wife is becoming the main driver and where she goes, our 11 month old goes, too.
Gotta keep them safe and having her fumbling in the dark for a button is not getting that done.

I just did a whole bunch of bulbs.

* CNW1-23 is used in heated seat switch etc.
If desperate, use Radio Shack 272-1092 but you have to thread it in the existing base. No big deal.

* The "Sport Economy Winter" Switch has what seems to be an LED soldered into the circuit board.
I don't think you can replace this bulb.
As long as the green dot (Economy Mode) and orange (Winter Mode) are lit, you are OK.

* The Gear Shift Light Bulb (PRND3L) is a special Volvo bulb.
However, I was stuck and had to get the job done, so I used Radio Shack 272-1092 with success.
Rotate the bad bulb sideway back and forth to break it from its base.
Look down the base, there are 2 tiny holes, thread the Radio Shack bulb wires through the base, then loop the wire in the hole of the spade connector.
Just make sure the 2 wires don't touch each other.
Believe it or not, the Radio Shack bulb is as good as the factory bulb.
