console lights

Post by camper guy »

The light for the heated seat switch on my 850 is out on the drivers side. How do I get to it? Does the switch just pop out? The car is in great condition, I don't want to damage it trying things.

the guy at the dealer parts desk talked me out of buying the bulbs under the console. He also talked me out of having them do it - too expensive he said. The parts are cheap, but he said that you have to partially disassemble the shifter linkage to get at some of this and most people bugger it up when they do it. I'm used to not having a shifter light.

Maybe I fell for fearmongering, I don't know... perhaps you can search the archives to see if it's easy to do yourself. Lot's of times, the unknown is the hardest part to get over. ;)

Try to get a hold of the Chilton manual for 850. There is a detailed pictorial on how to dissassemble the console. Perhaps your local library has a copy you can just borrow.

The shifter light is fairly straight forward to replace, when I first got my 96 850 most of the lights and the dash where not working.I replaced them all without the aid of a manual and the removal of the console is straight forward if you take a methodical approach to it.As for the heated seat lights the switches can be prised out with a small screwdriver and the bulb is just a twist fit into the base of the switch.
Five minutes of a job the bulbs cost very little indeed and it makesall the difference to the interior of the car.Good luck
