Last week my car stared to get the stc light flashing when I turned left and then I started to hear a ticking sound that accompanied the flashing light and now the light flashes when I turn both ways but the ticking sound only starts when I turn left. And all this happens only when I give it gas. I can coast and its ok. I took it in and the mechanic said it sounds like a bearing is going and getting sloppy so it sets off the stc sensor. It makes sense but I have never heard a bearing tick before. But cv joints tick when they start to go so I jacked it up and check the cv joint and there is no slop between the wheel and the joint..... So I don't know where to start. Both of these parts are easy to install BUT which one is it. I cant think of anything else that could make that sound and set off the flashing light. ABS module was replaced 4 months ago and it was an OEM part so thats out of the question.
Anybody know what this is??? been looking everywhere online with no luck.
thanks!!

The ticking sound is probably the abs pump running when the stc kicks on. It's coming on because there's a call for it. I wouldnt go after the bearing itself, i would first check to make sure that the bolt holding the cv shaft is tight. Usually if it's that loose it will trip the abs light/message.

I checked the drive shaft bolt in the hub and its tight. SO I have no idea and I guess all I can do is start by replacing the bearing that my mechanic said to do and if its still there I will take it to him and tell him he was wrong and find a different mechanic. I hate when mechanics say "well, I would start by replacing", or "I've never seen this before". You would think a vovlo mechanic would have had this problem before. UGH.... frustrated!

Instead of spending time and money not knowing what the problem is, I suggest you bite the bullet, get the STORED codes read at a Volvo dealer (or a shop with VIDA).
A code will be there and it should point you towards the problem

Did u scan it with a generic obd2 unit? Or with vida/dice?
A generic scan tool wont pickup much.

I would remove and clean/ reinstall the abs sensors. Try and take a look at the grooves in the axels that the sensors use to gage wheel speed and sipinning tires. Its a long shot, ive maintained my own volvos for 10 years and have not encountered such a problem. Surprised their isnt any codes stored.
It sounds like a bad abs module. But like u said, its new. Hope u figure something out, sorry i dont have much usefull input tho. Seems strange

So I took both front sensors out and cleaned them but it still flashes and knocks when I turn. One of the sensors had wear marks in it like it is or was rubbing against something. Called the mechanic and he said it could have been from a bad bearing in the past but that wheel had no noise. SO i think we will hook vida up and read it while I drive and make a that noise and light act up. What a pain in the ass but I dont want the damn abs module to go since I just bought it and it cost a small fortune. So I am not replacing anything else till it gets read. Thanks guys and I will keep you posted since this has never been heard of.
