2001 S60 - need help identifying parts

Post by peterz »

2001 S60 T. car ran rough on start and I found where a squirrel has chewed through a hose and small wires. On the photo I need help identifying the parts and any advice on repair. the small black hose appears to lead into an inline filter. the up arrow oints to where insulation was chewed away on tubing. The right arrow points to a small bundle of wires, two of which are chewed though. thanks

The white filter is a one way valve that is connected to intake manifold and intake tube (before turbo) . You will get a code if the tubing has a leak or the one way valve is in backwards (take notice of arrow on valve).

The wiring should be repaired with solder and proper shrink tubing. The wrap in protective plastic covers.

The tubing to the manifold and emission system (containing white valve) is probably close to worn out anyway so get some gates oil vapor or fuel line and replace it while you are there.

There also seems to be some damage to the insulation wrap on the top oil trap hose (shiny silver tube. The discounted cost of this part is $200 so just insulated it with some pipe wrap or similar non combustible wrap. The engine compartment will see 230 degrees F during summertime.

If your subframe/bottom engine cover ( big plastic thing you have to remove to change oil) is missing replace it. Also you can sprinkle the bottom cover and surrounding areas with cayenne pepper as rats and squirrels do not like it.

If you are upset over the damage about 20 minutes of Googling/You Tubing "squirrel launcher" usually does the trick
