2001 XC70 P0014 code Timing Question?

Post by jamesstar9 »

I recently changed the timing belt on my 2001 XC -70 and thought I had eveyrthing lined up. I started it and drove a few miles and everything seemed ok, but then got a P0014 Camshaft Position error code a few miles down the road. It looks like that I was one or two teeth off from the position marks on the cams. Anyone with prior experience what is the best way to adjust the timing?

Probably
Time to remove everything and retime the engine.
If you don't know how to do this, better left to a Volvo mechanic

Ok so when lining up the cams and crank my cams are advanced from the crankshaft pulley mark by two teeth. Should I remove the belt and move the intake and exhaoust cams back manually or am I better off lining up the cams to dead center with the top cover mark then moving the crankshaft pulley back to alignment?

I had recently bought a 2001 Volvo XC70 AWD 2.4T and it had a P0014 and PO422 code. It drove ok and seemed to lack on test drive but I bought it anyway for $3000. It had 126,000 miles.
As soon as I got home it started smoking like a chimney, white to greyish smoke not too much odor. I check the timing allignment it was on the money, and checked everything else that I could. Took it to a volvo specialist the following day and it came out to an estimated $3000 in repair.
The turbo was toast turbine was broke off and shooting oil right down the down-pipe, the PCV system was clogged, oil sludge in the pan and all through the engine. Basically the neglect of regular oil changes every 3k instead of the recommended 7k in the volvo manual caused all the problems listed above.
The solution was the following:
*new turbo and oil line.*remove intake and clean the PCV box + new lines* drop the oil pan and soak it.*new o-ring kit for oil pump and sump.*new crank and cam shaft seals (highly recommended)*New front )2 sensor.*Clean out VVT.*Remove oil sump screen and us JB Engine Tune-up with oil change. The engine was so gummed up if the sump screen was left in place the debri from gummed engine would clog it up, starve engine of oil and kaput. When the Engine tune-up is applied they run the car around a bit and let the crap work its way through engine and let the filter catch it, which is a 30 mile process, drain oil and repeat again. After that chage you can run it with the JB Engine tune-up for about 1500-2000k and change oil again.
So far car has been running good after 1k and hopefully they saved the engine.
My best guess for the P0014 code is from a gummed up engine and you have ports clogged with charred oil.

@nathanfmoore Any update on how your car is running now? Were you having crankcase pressure issues? I am having similar symptoms, 125K miles, same car, but no smoke.
