240 Fuel sender

Post by markvt »

Has anyone pulled a fuel sending unit on a 240? The wire going into the sender has rotted off on my 240 (1992). Is it a spade connector where the wire connects to the sender or does the wire go directly into the sender?
Thanks Mark

On my 1986 740, the sender unit had wires permenantly attached to the unit. The wire harness from the sender passed into the trunk, where the sender power and fuel pump power wires attached to the body wiring and the ground wire bolted to the body. If your wires have rotted off, you will need a replacement sender unit. Be sure to replace the in-tank fuel pump at the same time, if you have one.

Thanks for the response. I'm guessing that mine is set up the same way. I think replacing the fuel pump at the same time is a good idea.

The wires broke off my sending unit as I was attempting to replace the in tank pre pump. I bought a new sending unit for a little over $100 from fpc groton. Buy the way disconnect battery before working on it. One spark and you will be "Hoist by his own petard"
