distributor gasket? misfire troubles.

Post by deltajets »

This morning the car(1998 v70xc) died on the wife.Had it towed home got it in the garage and pulled up engine codes, misfire cylndr 1,misfire cylinder 2,multiple misfire. The car did start right up for me and ran fine but i did have misfire codes in the past with no noticeable performance problems.I've decided to replace the rotor cap and plugs due to it being time.I did find when I removed the distributor cap that it was full of condensation bad enough that the bottom post was fully submerged in water. My question is should the distributor cap have a gasket under it.All the parts on this car are factory volvo parts.

nope just make sure the cap isn't cracked, there's supposed to be some vents on the bottom of the cap I would make sure they are clear

Be careful when washing engine, water gets into spark plug wells and cap/rotor easily, causing misfire/stalling.
Remove the Plastic Cover (Torx bolts) and check if there is any water down the wells.

If the drain hole at the bottom distributor cap is plugged from oil leak (from Rear Cam Seal leak), then replace them using SKF 11809 seals:

Thanks for the advice. When I removed the rotor I found the rear cam seal out of its seat.I replaced both rear cam seals, spark plugs, cap and rotor now all is fine.
