1st post and hopefully a simple question.
I have to replace the thermostat on my '06 S60 2.5T. When I look for the thermostat online it seems to only show the complete assy (housing and thermostat at $100+). I did find just the thermostat listed on NAPA online. My question is do I have to replace the housing too? Seems like I should be able to just remove the cover and drop in a new thermo. Any help woud be appreciated.
Thanks

Make sure you replace the gasket tho.
You can just use the link above, its $17 in a volvo blue box (from that on line dealer),baley wrote:When I look for the thermostat online it seems to only show the complete assy (housing and thermostat at $100+).

For your 2006 2.5T it is required that you change the entire thermostat housing when replacing the thermostat. It is only offered as a whole unit from Volvo. You might be able to get it off and apart from the car, but once you do, there is no way to get the thermostat by itself. It is only offered WITH the whole housing. Part number is 30777476 for housing (includes t-stat) and 8636573 is for the gasket.
FYI - The only time you can change the t-stat by itself on S60/V70 cars is -2001 for the turbos and -2002 for the non-turbos. Otherwise it is required you change the whole t-stat housing.

I'm a bit confused here. I found the t-stat only on your web site (as the link I gave above), but you are saying all S60/V70 after 2002 need whole unit?MyVolvoPartsOnline wrote:FYI - The only time you can change the t-stat by itself on S60/V70 cars is -2001 for the turbos and -2002 for the non-turbos. Thanks for the input. I senta note to myvolvopartsonline and they confirmed that the stat and the housing are sold only as a complete assembly. I am disappointed since this is a normally a very simple & inexpensive maintenance item. Also am am not sure but it looks like the entire housing is muchmore difficult to remove the just the cover half. My last check will be with NAPA since they show a "OEM" thermo from BEHR but my guess is when the look in detail for the 2.5T it will show that this is not the correct one.

For 2004-06 5-cylinder engine, any update?
Can you change ONLY the thermostat or you have to replace the whole assembly as shown:

You must install the whole unit.
I did order the Behr thermostat from NAPA, it was very different from the one in the housing.
I ordered the parts as pictured.
Very disappointed that Volvo made this such an expensive chore on the 2.5T
My car is an '05 XC70.
