Re: I give up....

Sorry you took it wrong . My intent was it may be best your BF get the info first hand or become involved in the discussion so we can pick his brain and get his findings to try and solve the problem.

Sometimes when passing on 2nd hand info the meaning gets lost .

Anyway....good luck , I'm outa this one :?

No, it's not that. I can speak for him because I've run this site for over a decade and I've seen it all, and memorized half of it. :?

The point is it's hard to diagnose maladies over the Internet when discussing with the primary caregiver. When there's another degree of separation, it gets say 50% more difficult. Seen it, been there, as have many regulars.

You're more than welcome to carry on, and I do hope you can pinpoint your Volvo's problem and solve it. I'm just stepping in to correct a mis-communication.

I would take a look at the inner fender well on passenger side I saw this once when I neglelcted to put the plastic retainer on it .it was fine till some snow and ice built up behind it cracked the plastic and it would fly back at certain speed and rub the axle. Mine was after I did my timing belt

Sorry if I`m thread jacking but on the previous page there is a comment about the right lower motor mount, the one under register pulley. If worn, will the misalignment produce sound?

The resilient part (rubber) in the mount will delaminate or detach completely from the metal when it fails, and this would produce 'clunks' or 'bumpy' shifting that is very noticeable at takeoff from standstill.

Vibration is usually not the very first sign but may be there, especially when some other mounts are due (the upper torque mount and the transmission mount. In reality, when the lower motor mount fails, you want to change it soon and inspect all mounts. If you don't, the rest of them are likely to start failing shortly after, due to the increased stress.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

@ matthew1: I am the primary care giver of the car. Anything that happens with it, I have to tell him what it is so he can fix it. He is a VW/ Audi guy so he is not familiar with Volvo's. I always show him the posts and directly respond with what he says. All the information is first hand info. I just felt offended so I had to make sure I wasn't being disrespected.

@ nitehawk55: You don't have to leave. You might have this issue in the future. Just wanted to make sure we were clear.

@ stickbrick: Thank you for the info, I will pass it on to the bf.

@ gswede: Thanks for pointing it out, I will also pass it on.

@ regent: Thanks also.

I know I ask a lot of questions but this car is becoming a pain in my arse. The fan has also been on and off, sometimes it will turn on after the car is warmed up and sometimes it will not. I drove to work today in an 11 degree car...and back home. I sat in the drive way for a few minutes turning the car on and off and I saw the REC and AC lights flashing after I turned the car back on. What could that mean? Does it have anything to do with the fan not working?

Let's clear this one: Since you are mentioning AC and REC lights, I would assume you are referring to an intermittent problem with the HVAC Blower, not the Engine Cooling Fan, correct?
If so:

1. On the Electronic Climate Control Units, flashing status indicator lights would mean 'stuck button detected', which points to a dirty or damaged button contact, traces, or wiring incide the ECCU.
In your case, this is intermittent, and could be a consequence of spillage and dust accumulation.

2. When the blower is working, can you change its speed up and down?

Yes you are correct it is the HVAC blower.

1. It seems to be permanent now lol...ive driven to work and home with no heat in my car for 3 days now. *cry*

2. When it was working I was able to change the speed up and down, change the temp, move it from defrost to my feet and everything like that lol

I am really tempted to take it to a Volvo dealership cause I can't wait for my bf to find time to fix these issues.

I listen to the video that you posted earlier, I suspect there is some debris in the blower itself.
Do you have a cabin filter installed or not?
- If not, install a cabin filter.
- Chances are debris gets inside the blower motor itself.

Remove the blower area and clean it for now. D/C battery first!

Awesome. I think there is a filter but I will make the bf diagnose everything you guys are suggesting.
