Engine light on, weird hesitations, some light surging...

Post by lizardheart »

So yeh, engine light on, weird hesitations, some light surging...runs rough, will almost die sometimes while idling....some of the behavior mimics what I've read about a "throttle module" (?) that gets funky, and also possibly a software update for that piece, (tho lame Galpin in Van Nuys said that was NOT needed, but they suck)...in any case, Galpin wants near $300 to even hook the thing up to their reader, and sorry but that seems a little nuts...

What do you think as a first move?

thanx!

Pull into an auto parts store, probably a chain one like Advance Auto or Autozone, and have them read the code(s) for free. Then report back here with the fault code number(s) (and description(s), if their scanner gives you the description). At least get the code number(s).

I agree on the MAF sensor- but having the code read would help. Perhaps buying some MAF sensor cleaner would help, I had a Toyota where cleaning the MAF sensor made a world of difference! Good luck.

It appears I'm outside the ETM recall ranges on years/models etc...
