massive oil leak on our c70
massive oil leak on our c70
As the title says I have a large oil leak I have yet to be able to diagnose. I changed the oil cap, plugs writes and PVC/ breather system and now have a massive leak that completely covers the turbocharger heat shield from the top side. Any ideas I am at a loss this is the first Volvo I have ever worked on and we need it fixed right away.

Replaced the oil cap..? With a new one or..
Usually the rubber band sealing the oil fill cap goes hard after ever so many heat cyckles and needs replacing. 2buck item swapped in as many seconds.
What engine do you have? I suspect you might have loosened the top hose under plugcover.
Oil on top of the engine runs to back of engine and drips down onto heatshield/turbo
Anyway, if you remove the plug cover and its filled with oil which your post indicates, its either from a loose hose under there (there is only 1) or the oil cap seal is busted. The hose can have come loose due to blocked breather, did you do the work yourself?

I did do the work but I am not at all inexperienced as a mechanic though. I replaced the entire oil cap with a new piece from oreillys. and there is no new oil showing in the plug galley area. The engine is the 2.3 turbo motor

possibly turbo oil hose. clean everything up the best you can and then get under the car and try to see the backside of the engine after you run for a little while.

+1 with gswede. Its probably the crankcase vent hose under the plastic valve cover. When i bought my pcv kit from ipd i got the vent hose made by uro parts and well its junk! I finally gave up and tapped a metal fixture into the vent and made my own hose to go into the euro hose were it disconnects were the coupler is. Otherwise yea probably the cap o-ring.

I believe you blew out the rear cam seal behind the cam sensor. It's on the camshaft at the rear of the engine, just below the big engine mount thingy, under a metal cover. Look for oil in that area.

Not unless it's the turbo oil feed lines, but I kinda doubt that. Usually it's the big drain line on the bottom that leaks.
I blew a cam seal shortly after doing my PCV because I ignored it for too long. The seal was already weakened by all the excess pressure.

With the engine running how much pressure is released when you open the oil filler cap, I recently fitted a full PCV kit and within a week the crank pressure is so high that it sounds like a coke bottle being opened after it has been shook up - Engine is shot, blow-by gasses are too high so it's going in for another engine on Tuesday - Mike
