Wiring help - 2001 s60

Post by peterz »

I need to repair squirrel damage to a set of wire which I think support the fue injection system. See image, right arrow.

I will try repair, and need advice on the guage of wiring to buy. And any pariticular advice as to repair process - in intend to splice in and solder the 3 damaged wires.

The smallest I could find at autozone was 16 guage and it is a bit too large.

My car is a 2001 2.4L s60 turbo

thanks

You can always use a bigger guage if space allows. Make sure you stagger the solder joints and insulate them with good quality heatshrink tubing. The solder must not contain any type of corrosive flux (for obvious reasons).

Cosmetics are not a concern in this case as you will finally tuck everything nicely in a split jacket.

Make sure you treat with some rodent repellent (as someone advised earlier) to help discourage them' rascals from taking residence again...
It is best if you have the plastic dust shield in place underneath the engine compartment.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Thank much for advice - I did notice several splash shield bolts missing which may have given the squirrels easier access. new bolts on order, but odd they fell out in such a short time. I didn't do last oil change though, so mechanic may have been lazy. Have rat poison under hood while car is awaiting repair and it is being eaten.

I am surprised they even put the splashguard back in place... I wouldn't trust the stealership with an oil change either.
But I guess you could still send them the bill for the harness repair. This would significantly improve their learning curve
