s90 front brakes

Post by lindy8_man »

Started work on replacing the front calipers and pads. I had at least one that had failed and was wearing the pads unevenly. Driver side was no problem. Got over to the passenger side and found one of the guide pins completley seized in place. I pounded with a hammer, lubed it up with a permeating oil... No Joy. So I put the bolt back in, and began to torque on it hoping to pop it loose. Instead the whole head of the guide pin separated from the pin. :x So I was thinking of taking it to a machine shop to have it drilled and die and tapped. They said, "no we have tried to do those in the past and the bracket just breaks apart. Got a second opinion... SAME THING! Went to Pep Boys, they have a bracket for a whole $11, but it has to come from Indiana!.. Which experience has taught me takes a week.

I checked all the online parts companies, and they are selling calipers and brackets together. Nobody seems to be selling just the bracket. Making a call to San Diego Volvo tomorrow... unless someone has a great idea to pull that broken pin out...
