Hi all,
I just acquired a 2001 V70 XC, and we really like it- our first Volvo! It is a bit quirky, and I'm getting used to a few of its issues with the help of this site. We've parked it as of late because I was trying to muster up the time to replace a rear main seal. Upon stumbling upon this site, I did some further troubleshooting and found that it wasn't my rear main seal leaking at all, but rather the rear cam seal. I've removed everything down to the CPS wheel. The 10mm bolt that holds the wheel to the cam seems very tight- and the instructions I've read on this site indicate that it's supposed to be torqued to 17nm. So... how hard can I crank back on this bolt to get it off? I moved the cam a bit against the spring tension against the main gear, but when I turn it to the limit it wants to move the cam/belt slightly. This is when I stop turning and start wondering how much pressure I can safely apply before damaging something or jumping a tooth on the timing belt. Anyone have any experience or advice with this? I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Cam Position Sensor Wheel Removal
It took a few different methods, but I got it off. I had an air impact driver with a universal joint, but it busted the u-joint to I went back to the drawing board. A socket/ratchet just spun the cam and the belt wanted to sorta lift off the sprocket- so that was bothering me. Finally, I loosened it by using a 1/2" breaker bar while wedging a screwdriver in the only place I could to hold the cam sprocket from wanting to spin. That got it done, and I was able to change my seal and put things back together. I'm keeping an eye on things, as I'm worried that the flame trap needs to be cleaned out/replaced as it may have made my seal fail. However, the seal I pulled out seemed brittle and loose. It just almost fell out... Hopefully that's all my oil leak was. Thanks for the great site, keep it up!
