Final Final Sale. (Again)

Post by SimLyons »

The various companies who were going to haul away the remains of the '97R have all had various reasons they could show at the appointed time, The latest is Monday at 11:00 AM. We'll see and hope. My garage and tools need a thorough going over. Then the 2005 V70R moves in for the little jobs. I have the Power Steering back (So much nicer!!). Received the new ECC blower today but can't work on it until that car is gone (the old white one). Fan's getting noisier by the day. If it gets warmer tomorrow I can do it in the driveway. Then the 4C shock/strut (Electrical) right front (and if that doesn't work I'll do the LF and maybe both rears.

Question. After it is done is it better to align first or SUM? And what is SUM?

PARTS: Pics below)

ECU tweaked by IPD. It does the job!

2 perfect tail light assys, left and right as well as top and botton.

Rebuilt Master Brake cylinder with TRACS and ABS (ABS recently redone by MattyMoo. Perfect now!

2 SC-816 Radios (top of the line back then) and a 6 disk changer.

Right-hand (Passenger) door lock assembly, complete with all parts

I'm negotiable on parts, to an extent. Just shoot me your best offer and we can go from there. BTW: I use well known scrapyard dealers who carry lots of Volvos as my base. I go 20% under them, plus freight.

Most every component on the 4C shock control system requires the SUspension Module (SUM, the computer for the 4C system) be calibrated. The components may have different electrical characteristics and the SUM will compensate for the differences.
You should replace pairs of shocks. The shock manufacturers all recommend it. In my own experience of having worked in dealer and other shops in the past I have encountered issues from this. The vehicle will feel odd since the damping rate for new shocks is greater. The piston clearance is more on older shocks so they let some of the oil pass without going through the restrictive valving. My description of how it feels is that it feels like the car is twisting on bumps.
The front struts on P2 and on P80 platforms have some play in the strut to spindle attachment points. It is hard to mark things and have them back where they were. New parts may be dimensionally different making marking moot anyway. I always assemble the strut to spindle with the pieces adjusted to give the most positive camber since both these platforms tend to be negative cambered to the outer limits or beyond regarding the specs. Given all of this as alignment will be needed.

Jimmy, I'm guessing you meant that for a different thread?

Edit: never mind, I just re-read sim's post. . . Need more coffee.

Jimmy I do agree and am ordeing another for the LF. The REALLY bad one is FR, I imagine in time (summer?) I'll do the rears. Thanks for the explanation.
