Throttle Body

Post by netasp »

Guys,
I need to buy a new Throttle Body, Volvo part is going for $500 (Tasca part alittle cheaper $400) and after market throttle body made by BOSCH is going for $228 from this site
Here

Has anyone used any after market throttle body before? the difference in price is HUGE should I go with BOSCH? of-course the unit will need a software upgrade, will the after market BOSCH unit work just as well and the it will programmed just fine?

Thanks
I own 2004 XC90 2.5T AWD

Same part made by Bosch that is sold at dealers. Similar to.the markups of the Bosch MAFs at the dealerships which list at $300 plus and can be bought online as a Bosch part for $125.

No programming needed for this unit. Just remove the battery, install and reconnect battery then tirn on the ignition.

Thanks precopster for your reply,
it's very good to know that I can buy the BOSCH and don't have to spend the big $$$. The only thing is when I click on the Throttle Body picture in the link above, it reads the following:
"OEM Bosch Volvo Throttle Body/ETM. This unit comes with a 1 year warranty but when installed you will need to get a software upgrade from the Volvo dealership for your vehicle to read that a new unit has been replaced on your car."

Will the dealer upgrade a software on a unit that is not marked genuine Volvo part?

This sw upgrade is mandatory for the Mag Marelli units from '99-'02. There is no circuit board in these to program. There are motors and potentiometers unlike the Mag Marelli unit which has its own logic board and power supply.

I just found another BOSCH throttle body which says exactly as what you have indicated below about not needing any programming done, price difference makes me worry sometimes:
www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/9718/Throttle-Body-30711554/

The dealer quoted me $60 in SW for the new Volvo unit, If the BOSCH unit doesn't require any SW, then how would it work and communication with the computer without instructions?

Although all sites confirm the BOSCH unit will fit my car model and make but the dealer's quote about SW makes me nervous about buying an item that doesn't need programming :o

The dealer is WRONG. Too late anyway; the price at FCP euro just shot up to $309

Lucky I put MY order in last night, thanks for the tip

That was a kick-a@* price for 10 minutes or so. Sometimes if things are too cheap we suspect.

I repair throtte bodies here in Oz so I couldn't resist.

Vida says to adapt new Bosch throttle body clear all codes connect new unit and turn on ignition. No software. Just had one apart today for a customer. Try cleaning the resistance film and retensioning the contact brushes.

Do you recommend buying the throttle body casket as well? my car is XC90 2005 2.5T

you seem to know alot about these issues, the garage in here want me to do a complete PCV service and he is saying replacing the throttle body without the PCV service won't help me as the problem would come back later.
My question is how much would you charge for service PCV pipes? how many hours would it take u to do? he wants $500 for that? Am I getting ripped off?
