410 code SAS
410 code SAS
I did the diode thing in the ECM 3 days ago. I have driven the car for three days now loosely using the volvo readiness procedure. So far so good....no 410 code....BUT my scanner says the car is not in readiness mode yet. Anybody else have this happen after doing the procedure? I have put 175 miles on the car since doing the procedure. It is a 1998 S70 XC. Thanks, lobo

Yeah. The readiness monitors are a pain to reset.
Start with the vehicle cool, below 122 degrees F.
Turn off the air conditioning.
Select a location where the driving can be done without violating traffic laws and you can stop safely at the side of the road.
1. Start the engine and accelerate to approximately 1500-2000 rpm.
2. Drive for 6 minutes at 1500-2000 rpm.
3. Stop the vehicle and remain at idle in drive for 70 seconds.
4. Accelerate to at least 45mph and drive for 5 minutes at 1800-2200 rpm.
5. Stop the vehicle and remain at idle in drive for 60 seconds.
6. Accelerate to at least 45 mph and drive for 4 minutes at 1800-2200 rpm.
7. Stop the vehicle and remain at idle in drive for 60 seconds.
8. Park the vehicle and turn off the engine.
This procedure must be performed TWICE from a cold start to set the readiness codes.
Some people say that if doing it twice doesn't get it, do it a third time.
If you don't have to pass an inspection any time soon, just drive the car and don't worry about it.

OK... thanks. This is the procedure i have used....actually probably 4 times...that's why i'm worried. Tomorrow is the last day to get it through Maryland (pain in the ass) emmissions. Mrs Lobo is driving it today so maybe that will do it.

all 98 volvos are exempt in MA... I reset my codes in the parking lot then let them inspect it
I wish it was like that in Maryland. Moved here from Pa and ,like you, would clear the codes befor entering the inspection station....no check engine lights...no problem. The bigger problem for me is i have 2 1998's. I have a s70 T5 with the 455 problem. Not even close to solving that one. I love volvos but having second thoughts about going through this every 2 years. Take Care!

Well, in Maryland, you can get a temporary extension for the meantime.

Thanks. I have already done that. I am going to take both cars down tomorrow. Hopefully the XC will be computer ready. The T5 will just fail,so I guess that will give me 30 more days? Sorry I brought up the T5 issue. I will start a new thread on that after I review more postings on the site. I appreciate everyones' help. Lobo

Thanks for that info. I was wondering why so many readiness monitors were flashing when I code-scanned my new baby.
That drive routine sounds quite difficult off a closed track or dyno :O
