Fuel Pump Fuse Keeps Blowing

Fuel Pump Fuse Keeps Blowing

I have a 2005 XC90 T5 AWD. Today the vehicle shut down on my wife when it was warming up. When I got home I started to do some simple troubleshooting steps. I found the Fuel Pump fuse blown. I replaced and the vehicle started right up. It then shut down approx 15 seconds later.... Checked fuse again and yes it was blown... This is my first Volvo and I have fallin in love with it so I am very anxious to get it back up and running. I am supposed to be taking my family out for a Snowboarding/skiing trip this weekend.... I don't want to let them down!

Here are my first thoughts on this issue.
1. Faulty fuel pump
2. Faulty Fuel filter causing the fuel pump to work a bit harder causing the fuse to blow.
3. Electrical problem.
4. Faulty Fuel sending unit.
5. NEED A 2ND BRAIN TO BOUNCE IDEAS OFF OF.... :)

If anyone can give me their thoughts and/or some troubleshooting ideas that would be great! I have a strong background in low voltage and have no issues with using a volt meter for testing . I unfortunately just don't know enough about volvos and the locations of all there electrical components/tolerances. So again any assistance would be very helpful!

Well today I took out all the seats, carpets, etc.... I have found the fuel pump... SIDE NOTE... the fuse did not blow last night as i thought. fuse is good but still wont run.. BACK TO THE PUMP... I took some voltage readings today and I have 5VDC across 2 terminals.. neither of which seem to be changing when i turn the ignition on or off. Can anyone chime in on how much voltage i should have at he pump and which Pins the voltage should be present on. I do not hear the pump turning on when the ignition is put into the on position. Please any suggestions would be very helpful!!!

My wife ended up having an accident last night in our other car due to ice and snow.. I really need to get our Volvo back up and running... as of now both of our vehicles are out of service and we are kinda stranded... still trying to figure how to get my son to school tomorrow... :( okay sorry..... just needed to vent been a very rough 24 hours...s

Hi,

Did you ever get an answer to this. I am having the same issue on my 09 C30. Mechanic isn't sure what the issue is but has suggested to try replacing fuel pump module. But quote is $1600 AUD. they said if that doesn't work then replace fuel pump. Any help would be appreciated
