Possibly the fan resistor has died. It controls speeds 1 - 3. Have you checked fuse 31? It covers speeds 1 - 3.

Max speed is controlled by a relay via fuse 5.

Is your climate control automatic or manual? If it is a manual, I can't come up with anything that would cause the system to behave that way besides a short in the wiring harness.

I agree with a short in the wiring or the relay has shorted. The relay is behind and to the left of the glove compartment.

>>climate control is automatic and i'm still lookin for a cause of the problem<<

Have you tried to pull any codes? The automatic climate control posts codes which can be read from Socket B, Position 1. I have the manual variety myself. The last vehicle I had with the automatic system had a default system failure mode that turned the heat on full, the blower on high, and the vents to defrost. Thank God it was winter when it failed.

Best of luck,

Are you referring to the light on the climate control box? A/c on or recycle? or....

Does this mean your not getting the code 1-1-1? or are you getting no codes at all?

I know when my automatic climate control went.. the OBD system just had a light on.. no blinking.

If thats the problem...then it might mean you should replace the box

To Ozark Lee:
Sounds like you replaced your Auto-ECC with a manual one..Did you buy it new or from a salvage yard? Any modifications required or does it plug right in? Any regrets about not going back with an Auto-ECC?
