Re: Volvo S60 AWD 2002 Driver's side power window switch
Just an update...I installed just a top board of a used DDM in my car and things seem to be working perfectly. I did have to remove and re-install the applicable fuses before it would work. The used module cost $60 (alot better than $300!) and I didnt have to show up at the dealer so I'm pretty geeked.
Thanks for all the info.

It looks like I spoke too soon...last night the problem started up again. I'm planning to swap out the bottom half of the unit, but then I know I'll have to go to the dealer for programming.
Can anyone tell me if the programming is done directly through the DDM or through the usual main port? If its programmed at the DDM, I'll leave the door panel partially disassembled.
Thanks

One last update (hopefully!), I installed the lower half of the DDM and everything has been working without reprogramming. I was careful to order a unit with exactly the same volvo part number which might be the reason or the fact that it was used, rather than new may be the reason that it works without reprogramming.
So, for those with the same problem, it is possible to get things back to working order without spending the $300 for the part and $75 to the dealer for programming. I spent about $60 total.

I am having the same issue with my 01 S60. I purchased a used switch from ebay after the dealer quoted me $778.00 to replace it. The one I purchased is not doing anything, so I took it to the dealer for reprograming and they could'nt get it to work. I asked if it was the switch and they told me they didn't know that they have not been able to reprogram ones from other vehicles (after first telling me that once one it has been programmed for one car you can't change it). Does anyone know that this can be done or do I have to buy a whole new switch???

One thing you could try...
When I replaced my switch, before the newer one would work, I had to remove and re-install the applicable fuses. There were 3, all in the fusebox just inside the drivers door on the side of the dash. 1 was marked door modules, and the other 2 were left door module and right door module. I did all 3 for good measure but I think the first may be the only one necessary (also make sure the fuse isn't blown
)
The other thing I would check is that the volvo part number on the bottom of the module are exactly the same. Although the module will look exactly the same, I think the number indicates that it was from a different model which would probably require different programming. I had to search and ask a lot of questions before getting exactly the same number. By the way, I replaced my '02 unit with one from an '01, so inter-year change outs are possible.
Hope this helps...I know how irritating the problem can be.

Hi, I'm having the same problem with a 2002 Volvo s60 FWD base model. I was wondering if your replacement described below continued to work without a software load from the dealer. Im planning on ordering a used DDM with the same part number, but wanted to make sure it could work without dealer software. Any info you can share would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob

Here's an update. I was actually able to fix this problem with a used DDM from a junk yard in Oregon. They sent the product to me by mail. Like user "seggs" I was able to fix this problem for about $60-70 dollars. The part was only $45 and shipping was about $10. But I also purchased some contact cleaner, etc to see if that would work. It didn't. The part number on the used part matched the part number on the one I was replacing. I was also able to keep the top panel from my original switch which was in much better condition aesthetically than the top panel on the used part i purchased. Similar to the above post, I also had to pull and re-insert the fuse for the DDM. At first all controls worked except for the drivers window. I had to push the drivers window down (the actual glass) while pressing the down button. Once the window went all the way down, I think the control reset or something, because it then worked great. I completed the part change a few months ago and it has been working really well ever since. After months of hearing that clicking noise, it was almost strange to no longer hear it...can't say that I miss it though.
Lastly, the first part I received from the B&R Auto Wrecking in Oregon arrived damp as if it was packed in rainy conditions. After letting it dry out for a day, I wasn't able to get it working, so B&R sent me a replacement part (different part number). The second one I received was completely dead. B&R was going to give me a full refund. Since "seggs" and others had success, I kept trying the two parts and was able to get the first one working - it must've take more than a day to completely dry out. The customer service I received from B&R Auto Wrecking was great. Ashley was the sales rep that I worked with.
Thanks again for everyone's helpful posts!

Could someone clarify the easiest way to disconnect the wire harnesses from the DDM? I was able to remove the speaker cable easy enough but those other two harnesses are real buggers to get loose. Also, do all of the numbers on the DDM have to match or is it enough for the main part number only to match?
I just had the same problem on an 02 V70 wagon. I removed the entire DDM by gently prying it up with a screwdriver. I then totally disassembled the whole module (very easy to do, just do everything gently). I cleaned everything using contact cleaner and used electronic cleansing wipes where I could. reassembled and reinstalled. Works like new now. Gonna keep my fingers crossed though...someone else posted about this working for him too but a few weeks later it malfunctioned again. Appreciate all the helpful posts on here.
