New Ignition switch and keyless entry issue

Post by john200981 »

Just had the ignition switch on my 98 S70 replaced the other day...and now my keyless entry will not operate. Service guy said that the device would need to be re-coded to the igniton switch, but can't find anything on HOW to do it, or if it is a local Volvo shop visit I will have to do.

I don't think you have a choice but to goto Volvo and get the remotes reprogrammed. I hear it's not cheap so let us know what the damage is if you go this route.

You can do it yourself.

The solution is about 3/4 of the way down the thread.

OK...tried what was mentioned in the posts and it will not work for my S70. From further reading, I see that it will work for the 850, but the S70 gets the code some other way. BUT, being stubborn, am going to go and see if I can try it again.

I also have an S70...the only place to program the car to the remote (yes, in these cars that's the way it works) is at the dealer. Take all of your remotes into the dealer at once. Your car has to be set for each remote or else when you get home, the ones you didn't take with you won't work with your car. Up to 3 remotes can work on your car at once.
