I had 4 Mazda 929's all 89's in my driveway for many years. All ran, all were used frequently and I still have one left that's my wife's DD. Well, soon that is going and I'm getting my wife either a V70, S70 or 95~97 850. We almost bought a 98 V70, Green, AWD but it is exactly what I have now, that might get too confusing.wheeler000 wrote:I'm buying another at s70 in the morning. it's black 5 speed manual sunroof, 161,000 miles. 1400 dollars. the guy says it's good to go and needs nothing daily driver excetera. I think I'll change the timing belt just in case. I hope my red one doesn't get jealous. it's going to be so weird having 2 of the same car. I think I'll make them compete in daily all out fist fights in the driveway to see which one gets to be taking care of and which one gets to be truly driven.
my transition to the dark side is complete

it turns out I did not buy the other S70. the guy selling it totally misrepresented it is ad, it was totally shot; finished and beat down in every possible way. but since I had sold my other car another daily driver that my wife uses the day before I had to immediately get something else. I bought a 2000 Jetta with 215,000 miles on it for 800 dollars. I got it running good and looking good in about 12 hours but my wife hated it. so I sold it on Craigslist the very next morning for 2400 dollars. then I talk to this guy down on a convertible 325i and bought it for 1900 dollars. it sat for a long time so even though it runs I'm still working on some gremlins. all in all I'm pretty happy with how things work out. nothing better than an e 36. I use the same handle over on bimmerfest if you are ever over there.
I am a shadetree mechanic that buys broken Volvos fixes, then sells.
I made a living off of the 240 and watched the transition to a classic. The classic started to turn into a 'collector's car' and I became lost in the price upheaval.
So 850's took a little learning, thanks to this site not a difficult transition. I'm now doing my first S70 T5 that I bought from a wrecker company that didn't know what it was. The price was sooo good I won't mention it, but she had a hole in the oil pan and there was a chance that the engine was junk.
I have always loved Volvo's engineering philosophy, but can see cost cutting creeping in. The original O-rings for the pan were green, i.e. high temp. cost more. The 4 rings that I bought with a discount from the S70 (18 psi boost) Volvo parts guy were $20.00. When they came they were black! Straight old neoprene. I should have refused the O-rings and just bought the square oil, but didn't want to appear cheap in front of my new friendly parts guy.
I like this T5 enough to buy one for me!
Have a Previa for my tools.

I love our wagon as well BUT I haven't had to half the maintenance to our Toyota Previa mini van. My wife has owned Volvo's all her life with some getting up to 400,000 miles. The Previa has 300,000 the X/c has 200,000....... I'm still not sure sure who my money is on but hopefully the quirky volvo will get there!
Also wanted to point out how very thankful for the online help on repair and maintenance,
ABS module
Control arms/ball joints
tie rods inner and outer
stabilizer links
struts/shocks
fuel pump
belts
ignition coil/
spark plug wires
half axles front both sides
bearings/ front
propeller shaft.... soon
rebuild all the calipers
rotors
radiator
.......
