I was looking for an info.
When in P or N, if you hit the gas pedal to max, how many RPM should you reach?
Problem after transmission fluid change

If the car is in neutral or park and you stamp on a gas pedal, engine will not go past 4500 or 5000rpm.It's the safety feature which guards the engine from being destroyed(blown).

Meh, never tried. I've hit 4500 though without a limiter.
I know the ETM ones had one at or around 4000.

Don't waste your time & money buying parts....this post should tell you everything. The transmission is slipping....or your Cv joints are slipping(yep, that's other possibillity). But if they are ok before fluid change and if you didn't mess with them....the only culprit would be a bad transmission.Francois850 wrote:...To help you visualize : let's say I am at 20mph, if I press the gas pedal both MPH and RPM needles will move increasing at the same rate, but the gain is SLOW! I hope you see what I mean....

I am pretty sure the cat is plugged up. I recently (before the fluid change) got 2 codes P0422 / P0455 (P0455 was a broken evap line, fixed it) and that was with 2 new O2 sensors OEM Bosch. I am going to remove the #1 sensor and do a test drive, if there is high back pressure, without it it will run much better.... Of course it will be super loud but at least I will know for sure if the cat is plugged.
On that throttle test I do get about 4000 RPM....

I will add how the issue just started, I know this thread is such a headache....
Before changing the fluid, the day before I passed the State inspection, I noticed the car lacked acceleration, the car was not acting very sporty but still I could drive the car just fine.
Few days after I did change the transmission fluid.
Afterwards, I went on the freeway and set the cruise control at 60 mph or so, as usual.... car was doing fine but on a long climb, for the first time ever, I noticed the car was unable to hold the speed.
Soon after I did smell something.... clearly something overheated.... but the engine temp was good.
Since that day the car has been as I describe since the beginning.

One more suggestion. It's a longshot, but won't cost you anything.
Uplug your front O2 sensor. Clean the contacts carefully, using electrical parts cleaner and a small scrub brush (tiny wire brush if you have one).
Put a little dialetric grease on the contacts and reconnect it.
Then start the car, let it idle and it will reset the computer if it needs to.
At the least it can't harm anything and then you can eliminate the O2 circuit for sure (since you've replaced the sensors).
Good luck.

Yeah, I think Jim's suggestion is a good one. Your inability to hold speed and the smell of the cat overheating mean that the air/fuel mixture is definitely very rich.
Have you made sure there's not a big air leak or lose clamp in/on any of the intake hoses anywhere?
