I did my 2000 V40 a while back and my 04 V70 recently via the Fcp Groton youtube video and a few diagrams. I will admit it was a bit stressful without locking cams but it came out perfect! Good luck!

The only hazard is if someone turns the crank shaft while the belt is off. (Hide the car keys!)

The only other thing that would cause the crank to turn is when you loosen or tighten the damper bolt, and that will only be done when the either the old belt is in place (for loosen) or the new belt (for tighten) either time of which the cams will turn with it.

I am considering doing some work on volvo's
For customers in my spare time.
So I built the cam lock for added assurance when working
On other people cars.

I've done 3 in the past without a cam lock. But now I won't be nervous about it being off a tooth or something..

I've read both a 70k and 100k mile change interval. So which is correct for an 04 V70 2.4L?

105K
Technically if you read your owners manual Volvo changed to a 120K mile change in 2004.
Personally up to and thru the 07s I do them at 105K, the 70K change is up to and thru M/Y 1998.
I don't trust either a belt or a tensioner to last until 120,000 miles
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Cool. Thanks! I just bought the car, an 04 V70, and will take delivery on Wednesday. One thing I do with every car is read the owner's manual from cover to cover. I'm kind of geeky like that but there is a lot of very good info in the OM.
