So after I fixed the bump stops I now have an even bigger issue.
At all speeds but very bad between 20-60 kph the steering is 'kicking' left and right. Shudders under acceleration and car seems to kick side to side ever so slightly when braking softly.
If i drive slowly forward the steering will turn left after every rotation.
If the car is raised and in gear, I hold the front left wheel and it will stop, and there is a loud grinding noise also??
Am I looking at a diff replacement?

Usually diffs whine rather than grind. Could it be a binding brake caliper on the left side? The grinding noise you describe, does it only happen when you stop the front left wheel by hand?
Edit, disregard diff oil statement thought I was on the XC90 forum.

Yes if I hold the left wheel when its in first gear it will kick and grind.
Pads are new as are the disc and I don't think the caliper is binding as I cleaned them and they seemed to be ok, no discolouration on disc that I can see.
I really like My S80 but this is getting annoying

CV joint seems fine and boots are clean with no rips.....inner tie rods seem ok to.chrism wrote:It sounds like you may have a badly binding CV joint. What condition are the boots in?

do the wheels turn smoothly by hand when they are off the ground. This is really weird! Generally diesel gearboxes are different, at the least the final drive tends to be.

Soooo after feeling stupid for several days ha i found the problem.
1) As my near side wheel was spinning i noticed a bubble appearing in the tyre so that's one issue.
2) The bolt on the new cv joint had snapped?? God know how?
So after new Tyres and new cv bolt the car is once again sorted :/
