Another Timing Belt Issue

Post by xk150 »

Good Evening...

Am just about ready to slip off the old timing belt but have a couple of questions... BTW... Am working on a 2004 C70 2.4L

1. To start, was not able to removbe the harmonic balancer... the cams marks are lined up with the marks on the TB cover... this looks good... For the life of me I can't see anything that looks like a mark of any kind on the crank... plus I can't even see where a mark is supposed to line up to... Does anyone have a decent photo?

I believe last time I did this (think 2007) I couldn't find the mark on the crank either... so made my own... put a white line along one of the splines and a mark on the housing... Just so I would have some point of reference and to see if the crank moved..

2. It appears the TB tensionioner that is on the car is different than the new one in the Volvo kit... The forks for the one on the car appear longer... Is this an issue... Checked FCP and they opnly appear to have one type.

Thanks

When I did my belt, I couldn't see the mark on the balancer, but my buddy did - I guess getting close to 50 makes your glasses ineffective . . . Anyway, try getting another set of eyes on it.

What's the part number for the tensioner you have? I'd call FCP to double-check the part number for your car. Nothing like tearing apart your car only to find out you got the wrong part in your hand!

The 04 engine has a lot of differences from the 93-00, I'd post this up in the other forum where a lot of people have worked with it.
