S80T6 2003 Oil dripping from Intake/MAF

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80T6 2003 Oil dripping from Intake/MAF

Post by epukerob »

I've seen much about the S80 PCV system issues which seem standard fare for this engine. But cannot confirm if this is really the problem. I am trying to find the source of this engine oil - it literally pools and drips back out the intake MAF, soaking the air filter element and leaving a big oil spot on the drive. This is NOT the "wet" turbo oil bypass/mist typically seen, which eventually condenses to a film on the inlet ducting. Car has 103k Miles. Engine will start and run, and idle, but is considerably down on power. I have not attached a boost gage to evaluate manifold pressure. Any tips and/or shared experience out there would be welcomed.

Due to the overwhelming response and input on this... and after further troubleshooting, I thought I would put this up for the benefit of the forum. The passenger side/1-2-3 turbo is failed, with crashed rotor, and the seal of course is taken out as well. The one working turbo now 'backflows' air through this failed turbo, and that is what is blowing oil back up the inlet pipe. It is also operating in 're-circulate' mode, which is NOT good, elevates air temps, etc.
