2006 s80. Worth fixing??

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

A great new to see you can do something with both cars...

My question is : why do we often read 2.5t issues ? (or is the 2,5t engine often broken ?) is this engine a bit fragile or so what ?
I mean i can read here some head gasket issues, some cylinders issues, some turbo issues, and so on. I see that the car has a lot of miles, and so the engine would have died being old... but thats my question.

thanks and show us your work
I think the reason you may have seen more issues with the 2.5T is simply because there are way more 5 cylinder volvo's on the road then there are 6 and 8 cylinders.
So there is alot more potential for failure due to higher numbers.
I personally have owned 4 different 5 cylinder engines, and have had zero issues with them.

I found seats out of a 2002 s80 ... They are tan as well.

But I assume they didnt use the same color tan leather in an s80
In a 2002 as a 2006??
Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

Here's a pic of the cracked seat.. Really like to do something with it.
Found some seats for 75$ a piece, gonna take a look ,but the odds of them being the same color are pretty low I think.

Picked the engine up today.. It's quite dirty. The aluminum really seems to oxidize alot when these engines sit. Going to require some elbow grease to clean up.

On a positive note, it came with etm, fuel rail/injectors, knock sensors, cam sensors, crank sensor, coils, and coolant temp sensor. Hope to find a couple days in the next week to get the project underway!

If there's any possible way to get a starter mated to it with some spacers instead of transmission now would be a good time to run some compression figures before all that heave-haulin'

Yes that would be interesting for sure! I do have an extra starter here..
However, I will probably just install it and keep my fingers crossed.
I plan to seafoam it and do some compression checks once its In there.

With 50 miles, I'm not replacing the timeing belt.. But it would be easy at this point.

Got 2.5 hours into removing the engine from the s80 yesterday. Managed to get the wireing harness all unhooked and off to the side. Removed the coolant lines from the radiator, removed the power steering lines, intake/inter cooler lines, got the heat shield off the turbo sprayed the 3 down pipe bolts with deep creep and got a couple of them to break loose.
Also removed the fuel injection rail, upper torque mount and strut tower brace.

Before I can pull the damaged engine out I still need to unbolt the ac compressor and leave it there so I don't have to re charge the ac system once the new engine goes in.
I have to finish unhooking the exhaust, and remove all the motor mounts.
Lastly I need to pull the front axles, as I am removing the engine and tranny in one piece.

Now, I'm a little uncertain with one step.. Should I unbolt the propshaft from the angle gear so I am able to remove the engine/tranny/angle gear in one piece?
Or... Do I just unbolt the angle gear leaving it attached to the propshaft, then
Reattach once the donor engine is in the hole?
I think I am going to just unbolt the angle gear and leave it down there. But any input is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks folks!
I have a full day to work on the car Wednesday. :)

Made some progress in the last couple days... Not as much progress as I would like to have, had some issues with the propshaft being rusted to the angle gear. Also issues with the driver side cv axle being stuck in the hub.
Now I'm in the process of switching stuff from one motor to the other, bolting the transmission up etc.. I have a box of trinkets coming in from fcp tomorrow.
Hopefully it goes together better then it came
Apart!

Got a couple hours in last night, transmission/torque converter are now bolted to the engine.. Which was a bit friggy I might add.
The bad motor had a new timing belt tensioner and idler pulley installed at a Volvo dealer last year, and deffinently looked newer then the timing belt on the donor engine. So I switched that stuff onto the donor engine last night as well.
Reinstalled the crank sensor, and switched a few minor things like the heater hoses, vacuum hoses etc.
Tonight I'm going to make sure the PVC system isn't plugged and then tomorrow is going to be the day that the engine/tranny go back under the hood!

I have been taking my time with this, hopefully it pays off and runs good once it's in there.

It's alive! Got the motor in the hole and the engine running! Sounds healthy and runs smooth so far.
I had the engine running atleast 6 times, once for about 20 mins to get everything up to temp. No check engine light so far!
I still need to add oil to the transmission and put the front tires back on before test driving it, but I'm glad it's running, the exhaust is very quiet.

On a side note, further investigation of the original "damaged" engine shows a valve broken off on top of the piston!!! Weird that only one valve is broken... I've never heard if a valve just randomly breaking off. But when it does it sure makes a nice hole in the piston!
I am going to tear that engine down and take a few pictures later on :)
