engine noise question

Post by bags519 »

Any ideas on the noise most prevalent in the beginning of the video?

Non turbo manual...

No change with accessory belt off or with clutch depressed.

Exhaust? Bearing on its way out?

Thanks for your help guys..

Sounds pretty normal to me. You can listen to this motor running with a new timing belt and rollers. Go to 12:00 minutes.

It's not the normal ticking its more of the low knock sound it scares me is that the noises you have also or just a ticking?

The car runs like a champ I just don't want to make things nice on it if I've got an engine problems come blow up on me in 10000 miles

I noticed the same low knocking coming from somewhere around the right side of the engine block. I have no idea of what it is, but my engine is also working fine.

Could be a cam bearing wearing out. You never know when they'll go out, maybe you guys have the super hearing that can detect it. Keep the oil changed with good filters and maybe it will last a while.

Remove the serpentine belt and see if you still hear the knocking. It could be a pulley.

Took another listen and I do here the low end knock a little. Get under it with it on ramps and see if it sounds different there.

Yes, that, definitely try to isolate from below. If it's the bottom end, it should be more apparent from the underside.

How do the mounts look? Especially the rear mount and the mount under the crank pulley area? You might try taking a little weight off the mounts by jacking up the motor a little bit.. not enough to raise it, just enough to take some weight off the mounts to stabilize everything and see if the noise goes away or changes. At least that's what I'd consider doing, very very carefully and safely of course.

Also, pull the oil cap and make sure you're getting oil flowing into the head.

Took it to local and got it up on rack.. looks like lower right engine mount, sub frame bushings, and possible harmonic balancer.

Anybody know if the subframe o ring fix I have seen for the s80 is the same on s70's?

Vibration was his cause, normal injector tap was all we could get out of the top and nothing on the low end.

I keep ya posted
