It's a 1999 V70 XC. The onset of this condition was intermittent, and is now constant. The check engine light is not on.

If you turn ignition on can you hear the ETM high pitch noise. Then during the time before auto turn-off does the throttle plate respond to changes in pedal incrementally with pedal angle? Is the ETS light on?

I'll need to pull some stuff apart to see what the throttle plate is doing and get back to you. I have had no idiot lights on with this condition. Only after reassembling the ETM and subsequently running w/MAF disconnected and then reconnected that I had a check engine light for a few run cycles.
So I went to Sears and got a CP9580 Actron Code reader. Two codes were stored: MAF sensor signal low (I had unplugged it and done a test run) an a turbo boost sensor signal low (a small hose close to the turbo was accidently disconnected at one point). The car continued to run in limp home mode.
When I checked the status of systems with the engine running, the throttle position sensor stayed at 20.8%, regardless of where I had the accelerator pedal. I cleared the codes and limped the car around the neighborhood and checked for any new codes. None. TPS still at 20.8%.
I restarted the car one more time and noticed the TPS was at 3.8% and the idle normal. Revved up to the normal 4000 RPM cutoff point. Had a few minor hiccups but took it for a spin around the block. It's running very well right now! I have no idea what that stuck throttle plate was about, but here's hoping this chapter in my V70 throttle body adventure has drawn to a close. Thanks for your input, guys.

Correct throttle position at idle when monitored by VIDA is anywhere between 24° and 31° depending on the model of car it's fitted to so I don't know how the Actron interprets the readings. There are still 2 TPS on the ETM so not sure why you only read one. You may be looking at Absolute Throttle Position or Accelerator Pedal Angle.

After a couple of months flawless driving,following the installation of the sacer sensor, I now have the "Engine system service required" on. the car idles at 850, then drops to 700 to shoot up to 950 before settling to 850 again, in cycles of 1 minute or so. Check engine light comes on as well. I can reset the codes with my odbII, but after a couple of minutes it comes on again. First the "Engine system service required" followed by the check engine light a few days later.
Do you think it is related to the ETM? Could it be a hose? Oxygen sensors? Or catalytic system?
All suggestions are welcome.

You mentioned you have codes. Which codes in particular are showing. Post them up on the board and we'll try to assist.

When I mentioned in my previous post "reset the codes" it resets the warning lights. At the moment I do not have a code but still am able to reset the message "engine system service required" and to switch of the orange triangle. The only code I have is when check engine comes on. For years now it finds "minor leak in vacuum system" but in between it has been driving fine... The dealer says it has to do with the octane level and advised me to only fill up with chevron octane 94. Another dealer is asking $200
for a diagnostics only. As we are leaving Canada in 5 weeks to go back to Europe, I am not sure how much I still want to spend before selling it

You can buy a cheap code reader or download a free app called Torque which requires a ELM 327 bluetooth OBDII reader for around $25.
This should be enough to point you in the right direction and be able to read the codes and post them up.

I do have the autel maxiscan ms 309, with which I can reset the warning lights and the message "engine system service required". For the moment there is no check engine and no codes. The freeze mode says that no codes are stored.... If I drive a couple of days with the "engine system service required" then possibly the check engine goes on again and the obdII will give me a code "minor leak in the vacuum system" but this is there as long as I have the car. Hope you have any clues on this.....
