Wastegate Actuator for 1999 Volvo S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Wastegate Actuator for 1999 Volvo S80

Post by Eldoninoz »

I was setting the actuators on my turbos and have one that leaks down pressure, at times it seems to dump pressure out of the housing where the rod comes out. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement wastegate or do I need to pick up another turbo? I have tried Amazon, Ebay, IPD website, eEuroparts site, G-pop, and baeturbosystems.com.

Is there any other place that would have the part?

i think you might have the best luck finding a junk turbo and scavenging the parts you need.

I was thinking as much, just wanted to avoid this problem with another turbo by replacing with a new part.

Thanks

The only actuator that does not leak down that I have found to this point is for the bank 1 turbo. My question now is can I use that actuator for my bank 2 turbo. The only difference I can see is the hose attachment point is 180 degrees out but am thinking I can just use extra soft line to attach to the hard line.

What are some of your thoughts on this.

Thanks

Found a turbo that will work, finally, only had to check 3 turbos before I found one that the actuator would hold pressure. Since I have both turbos off for repairing the head I took some vacuum line and a T to adjust them together so they now open and max out at the same time. On to the next challenge...

Set the wastegate actuator pressure to 6PSI for both turbos. That is to say, remove the rod from the gate, pressurize to 6PSI then adjust threaded rod so that the hole "just" drops onto the pin on the wastegate.

I have a pic from my endeavors here....

I have it set at 7 psi going off one of your previous posts, the wastegates start to open at the 7 psi and move at the same rate until they open completely.

"Are you sure the car is optimal to begin with? Good compression and leakdown? Wastegate pressure is correct on the turbos (6.5PSI is stock IIRC, you could bump this up to 7.5 for a bit more initial response). Vacuum lines in good condition? Good TCV? CBV isnt leaking/oozing boost? I say this beacuse you might fine the peformance you want by just bringing it close to how it was on day one."

Will this be OK or do I need to redo the pressure? Hoping to get the car back together since I just picked up the head. Had bent all but 2 valves.

Sounds like its in ballpark then. I keep getting the exact PSI figured mixed up in my head. For what its worth, volvo's process isn't to go by when the wastegate starts to open, but rather just making sure the pin and hole match up. Might just be semantics to be honest but though I would clarify anyway.

I just want it back together, I miss my baby. Driving a minivan after driving my T6 for a year and a half really stinks.
