engine makes a groaning sound

Don't forget to check your power steering pump also. It is also driven by the serpentine belt. Make sure your fluid is up to its marks and not low or empty. I agree with everyone to remove the serpentine belt, start the engine and see if the noise goes away. now you have narrowed your problem

I listened to the video. Take your timing belt cover off and make sure it's not rubbing on the housing. Probably not that but better safe than sorry, if you know what I mean.

just used one of those instant gasket tubes of stuff, that i had lying around...

Part #978111 is the 0-ring for the vacuum tower if you want to replace it. However as long as the gasket is high temp stuff and it holds I wouldn't worry about it.

The clanking noise that is in his video is what my car is making. It just started 3 days ago when i started my car to go to work. The noise did get louder when i accelerated. I did not drive the car with the noise and let it sit for 2 days. Then I turned on the car to show my mechanic friend and it made the noise on start up, but then wouldn't make it again. I haven't been driving the car with the noise for fear it was my timing belt. The noise seems to come from the sepentine belt area, but I checked all the pulleys and they are turning just fine. It also sounds like the noise comes from the lower part of the serpentine belt area.

I saw someone mention not to use a fram oil filter, which unfortunately I did with my last oil change which was 2 weeks ago, should I replace that with a better brand to see if it could be making the noise?

I don't mind trial and error to find this problem, i would just like some advice on which I should dig into first.

I have an 96 850 turbo sedan with 95,000 miles.
