98V70T5 - vapor rising up from turbo area

Two months ago I noticed that the coolant level in the reservior needed to be topped off every other week. I thought I had a leaky hose but could not find it. Yesterday, I opened the hood while the engine was running and I noticed smoke / steam rising from the turbo area. The oder smells like coolant when it hits a hot surface.

Any Ideas on what this could be?

Hi redt5,

There is coolant hoses that runs to the Turbocharger assembly.

I would start by using a good light source and look at the hose at the Turbo and see what you find.

As a matter of fact, here is a link that was posted by cn90 on the repair along with detailed pics...

...and get that fixed before you are into turbo replacement hours and cost....

As part of my "Second Life" program reworking my 99 V70 T5 for my kids I replaced every piece of rubber in the cooling system, even the heater hoses....with Volvo parts...ouch $$$$$$$$

+1 - change that coolant hose soon before it bursts and leaves you on the side of the road!
